No harmful
chemicals are used at any stage of manufacturing
Used extensively by
those suffering from chemical sensitivity and those concerned about
the environment.
100% Pure wool
- no dyes, pesticides, or stain protections are used. The application of
these chemicals can greatly affect indoor air quality through the off
gassing of volatile organic compounds.
Naturally pigmented
wool fibers are used for coloration as opposed to any of the harsh dyes
and chemical bonding agents other carpet manufacturers use
All natural primary
backing. Primary backing is made of a combination of hemp and
cotton. Hemp is used for its durability, strength, and mold and mildew
resistance. This is used instead of the traditional synthetic
polypropylene primary.
Wool yarns are locked
into place with a
natural adhesive that is derived from the rubber tree. This further
helps to lock the stitches in place and prevents slippage of the
yarn. This adhesive is completely biodegradable and non-toxic as well.
Jute, a hardy earth
friendly fiber producing plant, is used for the secondary backing.
No stain treatment.
Sheep are raised in a
free range environment.
Flammability - Meets
or exceeds methenamine pill test requirements for carpets and area rugs.
Completely
Biodegradable flooring.
Made in the U.S.A.
All of these elements add
up to make a product that is beautiful to look at yet sacrifices nothing
in the way of our commitment to indoor air quality and the environment.

All of the carpets below have the same quality. There is a
difference in the weight: The Dolomite is 30 ounces per
square yard and the Pyrenees is 38 ounces. These weights are true face
weights. Many other manufacture fudge on these numbers. When
measuring for carpet, please remember that the carpet is 12' wide and you
want to design it so that the patterns are the same direction and you
minimize the number of cuts.
Larger Individual Samples:
Each approximately 18" x 27". For when you know which carpet you are
interested in and you would like a larger individual sample. Price:
$42, including shipping within the contiguous United States.

This
wool based carpet padding is a blend of course naturally pigmented
wool's mechanically needled (not glued) to a jute facing. Eighty
percent of the wool fiber is pre-consumer waste. The padding is free
from dyes, fire retardant, glues, moth proofing or adhesives. Color
will vary from charcoal brown to tan, depending upon fiber
availability. Some vegetable matter may be present. Average
thickness is 7/16 inch, and the average weight is 30-32 oz/sq. yd.
Individuals who have a sensitivity to animal fibers should obtain a
sample before ordering.
The padding has been designed specifically for these carpets. It is
just the right density and firmness to provide the proper support and
cushion to maximize the performance of the carpet.
This 100% natural wool padding will provide many years of use before
needing to be replaced. When it does, we urge our customers to
recycle it to the garden where it will safely biodegrade while serving
as an effective weed barrier and mulch. Over a period of 2-3 seasons
the padding will completely disappear, adding nitrogen and other
nutrients plants need to the soil, essentially returning to grass.
This wool padding has been designed to be used for wall to wall carpet
only. It is not recommended to be used for rugs.

The Rug Gripper padding shown here is made of 100% natural rubber for
use on hard surfaces. It will provide extra comfort underfoot
and helps to prevent slipping of your rug. This pad will not
stain any type of floor and an be easily cut with scissors for a
custom fit to any size rug. 1/8th inch thick.
It is recommend that a rug gripper is used with the rugs to prevent
the rug from slipping.
Naturally stain
resistant. Wool repels liquids, which is what most stains come from.
Naturally flame
resistant. Wool fibers will not ignite if exposed to flames and they
self extinguish quickly.
Better air quality.
Our wool carpet does not contain any toxic chemicals. The fibers can
also hold dust particles until they have been vacuumed, which results in
less dust in the air. Wool carpet can
help purify the air by absorbing pollutants, according to a study by
the Wool Research of New Zealand (WRONZ).
Durable.
Because of the natural resiliency of wool, wool carpets can hold
their shape and fresh look longer than other types of carpet. When
stretched or crushed, they bounce back to their original shape.
Synthetic fibers lose their shape more quickly. Synthetic fibers
flatten, wear in high-traffic areas, wear under furniture, or pill.
Wool carpets are
soft and luxurious. Our carpets are constructed using the highest
quality wool available. This provides not only an extremely durable
product but a luxuriously soft one as well. Our carpets are not coarse
like many of the other natural face fiber products such as sisal, sea
grass, coir and jute. Many times our products are used in nurseries
because of the softness. We recommend ordering the carpet sample kit
above so that you can feel them for yourself.
Wool carpeting has a “useful” life of 20-25 years
before it needs to be replaced. Typical synthetic residential carpets
will need to be replaced about every 7 years. The synthetic carpets do
not wear out per se, they just “ugly” out. Meaning they are no longer
aesthetically pleasing to look at. They will however stay around in a
landfill for an extremely longtime. Some estimates are that they will be
around at least 10,000 years. Durable materials (wool carpeting) require
less frequent replacement, generate less waste, and may also realize
lower long-term costs. Having such a long useful life will reduce the
cost per year as well the carpeting’s impact on the environment.
No Dyes. The colors are derived from the wool
as it is naturally grown on the sheep’s back. Just as you, your family
and friends have a specific color of hair, so do the sheep have unique
colors based on particular breeds. We take these naturally colored
fleeces and blend them to achieve the beautiful colorations of our
carpeting. No dyes or harsh chemicals (moth proofing) are applied.
Biodegradable. Can be used as mulch, recycled, etc.
Earth friendly.
Non-toxic.
Can be used over
Radiant Heating. We have testing data that shows where carpets are
favorably used with radiant floor systems. This is real world testing in
an actual room size test chamber. The data validates what we have always
known and of course this is great news to our customers that want the
comfort/softness of non-toxic wool carpet instead of a hard surface
floor covering. Article.
MR Credit 4.1: Recycled Content -- 1 point
For this credit, the total project must contain 10% (based on
cost) recycled content, in a ratio of 2:1 post-consumer to
post-industrial recycled content.
MR Credit 4.2: Recycled Content -- 1 point in
addition to MR credit 4.1
This credit requires the total project to contain 20% (based on
cost) recycled content in a 2:1 ratio of post consumer to
post-industrial recycled material.
MR Credit 5.1: Regional Materials -- 1 point
This credit is earned if 10% of the total materials needed for a
project are extracted, harvested or recovered, and manufactured
within a 500-mile radius. If only a fraction of the material is
from the region, that amount by weight will contribute to the
regional credit value. (Shipped from Dalton, Georgia)
MR Credit 5.2: Regional Materials -- 1 point
in addition to MR credit 5.1
This credit is earned if 20% of a project's total materials meet
the criteria outlined in section 5.1.
MR Credit 6: Rapidly Renewable Materials -- 1
point
To qualify for this credit, 2.5% of the total value of all
building materials and products used in the project (based on
cost) must come from materials made from plants that are
typically harvested within a ten-year cycle or shorter.
INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
EQ Credit 4.3: Low-Emitting Materials: Carpet
Systems -- 1 point
The requirements of this credit are met if all carpet installed
in the building interior meets the testing and product
requirements of the Carpet and Rug Institute's Green Label Plus
program. Additionally, all cushion used must qualify for CRI's
Green Label program, and all adhesive must meet the prerequisite
standards of EQ Credit 4:1 VOC limit of 50 g/L.
In a lot of cases, LEED does not reward or in fact
encourage the implementation of truly sustainable products. For
example, in using natural materials versus synthetic. This is an
area where a lot of “green washing” has taken place. It seems that
the large corporations have been able to influence the program to
meet the criteria of the products they produce instead of the other
way around. It is not like this in all cases but if one looks
closely, these shortcomings are quickly evident. Environmental
health and planet welfare are about more than accumulation of
“points” and who has the most money to influence policy.
Care
As with all quality
natural fiber carpets, vacuuming with a suction only, no agitator,
vacuum cleaner is recommended. Beater bar vacuum cleaners may damage the
surface pile of the product. Therefore, you want to use a vacuum without
the beater bar attachment. Proper vacuuming on a regular basis will
increase performance. As with all wool carpeting, some pilling and
shedding can occur. This is a natural characteristic of wool carpeting.
Regular vacuuming can take care of this. You want to use a vacuum with a
normal suction, not one that sucks too much. Make sure that the vacuum
height is not too low. Use a vacuum that is not going to cause a lot of
friction with the carpet. If you find that it is, see if your vacuum has
an option to turn off the brush. Please do Not use a Dyson.
Use carpet cleaners designed for natural wool rugs. Do not vigorously
rub the affected area. Lightly blot area instead. If stain persists
contact a professional cleaner and be sure they use cleaners designed
for wool and natural fibers.
Keep the use of soaps to a minimum. Soaps can stay inside carpet after
they have been cleaned. This can result in them getting quickly dirty
again. This can actually be said for any carpet.
Spills usually blot up,
and regular vacuuming removes dry dirt efficiently. Use only a wool
approved cleaner for removing stains. Do not vigorously rub the affected
area. Lightly blot area instead. If stain persists, contact a professional
cleaner and be sure they use cleaners designed for wool and natural
fibers. Do not use water-based cleaners designed for synthetic carpets.
The moisture from water-based cleaners for synthetic carpets can shrink
the fibers and pull dirt back into them. Vacuuming removes dry dirt
efficiently. Use only a wool approved cleaner for removing stains. Do not
vigorously rub the affected.
Lightly blot area
instead. If stains persist contact a professional cleaner and be
sure they use cleaners designed for wool and natural fibers.
Wool does well to
professional carpet cleaning. The manufacture recommends using the
Host Carpet Cleaning
System.
Negative Aspects Of Our Carpets
The initially cost
more than some synthetic carpets. However, if taken care of properly,
then can actually save money, considering they can last over 50 years.
Wool is a very durable fiber.
Wool can stain more
easily than many synthetic carpets with chemical stain protections. Our
wool carpets are free of these chemical treatments.
It is true wool carpets shed a little. This is a
factor of them being made from short “staple” fibers. In fact, all
staple fiber carpets shed a little. Many synthetics carpets are made
from staple fibers. Staple is really anything that is not continuous
filament. The only natural fiber that I am aware of that is continuous
filament is silk. Of course, silk would not be as durable as wool for
use as a carpet fiber. In spite of the shedding that occurs with all
staple carpet products, you can be assured that it is minimal and will
in no way be noticeable in the appearance or durability of the carpet.
You may notice small fibers in your vacuum cleaner if you were to
inspect inside the collection bag. This is typical and is no cause for
alarm.
Stains
Any obvious stains should be cleaned immediately. If you are unsure of what
to do, play it safe and contact a reputable, professional cleaner for
advice.
Quickly blot up the mess without
rubbing. Apply clean cold water to the stain to dilute it and blot gently
with a clean white cloth. Dissolve a small quantity of mild cleaner such
as a gentle soap, or approved wool cleaner in a bowl of lukewarm water.
Test for color-fastness by applying the solution to a small area in an
inconspicuous part of the rug.
Dampen the stained area, working from
the outside edges of the stain in.
Then blot gently with a clean white cloth, turning it so that you use a
dry area each time. Avoid rubbing. If
the stain persists, repeat this step.
Rinse and clean the area. Blot and fluff
the pile until the area is dry to touch.
Manufacture Warranty
This product carries a
manufacture manufacturing defect warranty and is guaranteed to be free of
manufacturing defects for a period of 5 years. Matting, crushing,
soiling, staining or any other changes in appearance are not considered
manufacturing defects and are excluded from this warranty. No warranty
is made as to individual reactions, physical or otherwise, regarding this
carpet and its effects. As this is a natural product, the manufacture
does not warrant for any smells or odors.
Wool carpeting, padding and rugs are made to order and are not returnable.
Additional Information
INSTALLATION:
We recommend that the wall to wall carpets be installed by professional
installers. For residential installations, installers will normally
install the carpet by stretching it and using seam tape. For commercial
installations, glue may be used.
No, hand sewing is not required with
our products. If you have an installer that can sew the seams and you
prefer that method, there is nothing wrong with it. It is generally more
expensive to sew the seams and that is the main reason we do not suggest
it. We suggest that you find a competent installer that has experience
with wool carpeting and has access to a low/no VOC seaming tape. Your
installer will find that our products install very nicely because they
do not have the stiff synthetic fillers in them like all the other
products out there.
Prices do not include shipping charges or installation. Yarn lot
variances occur in natural fiber carpets, therefore, actual merchandise
is not guaranteed to match these samples. Natural fiber carpets vary in
texture and color. Slight variances in texture and color are normal and
do not constitute a manufacturing defect. Due to the natural content of
the sample, specifications are subject to nominal manufacturing
variances. Supply or manufacturing changes may facilitate product
changes without notice. Meets or exceeds methenamine pill test
requirements for carpet and area rugs.
IMPORTANT DELIVERY
INFORMATION: Deliveries of wall to wall carpet are by freight
company. It is normally easier to deliver wall to wall carpet to the
installers business and have them bring it to you when they install it.
For residential deliveries, freight companies need to call ahead of time
to set up a day and range of time for delivery. With residential
addresses, if the freight company arrives without an appointment, you
can tell them to come back after they schedule an appointment. Freight
companies that deliver flooring do not normally take the carpet off the
truck. If it a commercial address with a dock, they will back the truck
up to the dock. If it is a residence, they will normally bring it to the
curb. Freight companies that deliver carpet are NOT normally able to
deliver it to the inside. They normally just deliver to the curb and the
customer takes it from the truck to the inside. Sometimes, they will
put it on your driveway or in your garage but it depends on the
particular delivery person that delivers it. I'm sorry to say that we
are not able to promise that this will happen because it depends
entirely on the particular driver, the size of the truck delivering it,
and the width of you street and driveway. Please make sure that you have
planned to have people there to take the carpet from the curb to the
inside ahead of time. Each carpet order is made to order and is custom
made. Once it has been shipped, it cannot be canceled. Custom size
rugs are prepaid.
Most of the rugs are normally shipped by Federal Express Ground. No
appointment is made for these deliveries.
Due to the natural fiber
content, specifications are subject to nominal manufacturing variances.
Supply or manufacturing changes may facilitate product changes without
notice. Yarn lot variances occur in natural fiber carpets, therefore,
actual merchandise is not guaranteed to match samples. Natural fiber
carpets vary in texture and color. Slight variances in texture and
color are normal and do not constitute a manufacturing defect.
Chemical Sensitivity: While we have many customers that
have had a great experience with our carpet, we cannot guarantee nor
comment on any individual/client’s reaction. It is up to each individual
to decide on their own if our products work for them in their environment.
No warranty is made as to individual reactions, physical or otherwise,
regarding this carpet and its effects. We recommend that carpet samples
are ordered prior to ordering the actual product.
The best way to choose which carpet is to be able to see it and touch
it. The set of samples include a sample of Dolomite: Snowfield,
Tussock, Ursus, and Granite, Pyrenees Wheat, McKinley: Snowfield,
Tussock, Ursus, and Granite, Rainier: Snowfield, Tussock, Ursus and
Granite, Wool Padding, and the Rug Gripper. Each sample is approximately
4" x 4". Please make sure to see the carpet before ordering. We
always recommend that you order the samples prior to ordering so that
you can see, touch and smell the carpet prior to ordering. We do not
recommend ordering the carpet or rugs without seeing the samples.

Resources: There are over 200 chemicals used in
conventional carpets. No one has made a serious attempt to determine
which of these chemicals is responsible for acute illnesses in certain
new carpet owners. Symptoms include fatigue, difficulty breathing,
weakness, hair loss, skin rashes, dizziness, depression, loss of memory,
confusion, headaches, and burning throats, noses, and eyes. Anderson
Laboratories conducted a study of several hundred carpets under
carefully controlled conditions. The data demonstrated that certain
carpets release toxic (poisonous) chemicals into the air. The mice had
the same reactions as the carpet owners: altered nervous system
(falling, tremors, paralysis of legs, stupor, and convulsions),
irritation to the throat, eyes, and nose, and difficulty breathing. The
study can be found in Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine,
1997, Vol. 7, pp. 177-185.
